The Making of A GreenBeauty

During my teen years, I was clueless to skin care. Magazines such as Young Miss (aka YM) and Seventeen, were my skin care guides. My caboodle consisted of Neutrogena, Noxzema, Oxy Pads and Clean & Clear. Because of my oily skin at the time, I thought using all oil free products would solve my oily issues. A lesson was learned the hard way. Too many anti oil products in one regimen can totally strip your skin of all its moisture and can  be painful. Chemical burns are no joke.

Moving into my 20's, I became a bit more sophisticated in my skin care and discovered Clinique. That was my "moving on up" skincare company in the 90's. I was a loyal customer until my skin couldn't take it anymore. The soap & toner were too drying and the lotion was extremely heavy.

After giving birth to my son at the age of 30, my hormones changed everything about me. I was depressed for most of my 30's and my skin had become very dry and dull. Taking proper care of my skin was pretty much non existence. Mary Kay anti aging line was my staple for a while. Then, I switched to Arbonne International RE9 Anti Aging line. Arbonne skin care was naturally based  and vegan friendly. It was doing a great job on my maturing skin.


It wasn't until my 40's, I became aware of how chemicals and synthetic fillers in my daily skin care products can have negative effects on my hormones. That's when I converted to organic beauty with Annmarie Gianni Skincare. Annmarie's products are organic, natural and wild crafted. It's Mother Earth in a bottle. The Anti Aging line is amazing! I actually can feed my face with organic products to achieve my natural glow. No longer do I want to over indulge my skin with empty calories and mindless feedings.

Croc Skin & the Desert Heat

Two years ago, I had the opportunity to visit my sister in the Middle East. Dubai was amazing! Seeing the opulence and raw beauty of Dubai blew me away. 

The weather on the other hand was something I had to get use to. The dry heat of 104 degrees and random twirling sand storms were taking a toll on my skin.  My daily moisturizer of raw coconut oil was no match for this extreme weather. Come mid day, my skin was looking dull and ashy. My heels were looking as though I walked the desert for miles .

Out of desperation, I substituted my coconut oil for a hair pomade-  Coconut & Cupuacu Butter by  Darcy’s Botanicals. Hello Green Beauties! 

Welcome to my ventures in organic living. 

I am an eco beauty enthusiast. To be fair and honest, I'm 85% green as a whole. But beauty wise, I am 99.9% there. I use 3 products that aren't totally clean... a bronzer, black eye shadow and an occasional foundation primer. I'm still on a mission to finding the right three for me.

I have made it a habit to be aware of ingredients in everything I use and make conscious decisions on products that will heal the body, help the environment, and support social awareness. 

Brown Skin Green Beauty is my personal journey to finding alternatives to conventional cosmetics which are known to be harmful to your health and the environment. I will be reviewing products and services that cater to being eco friendly. Brown Skin Green Beauty focuses on natural/ organic skin care & makeup for women of color in hopes of encouraging and inspiring more to be proactive and practice green beauty.
